We took a trip into Canada a few months ago. Before we left, I checked with my insurance agent to make sure we were covered. He informed me that there was zero coverage on my policy for traveling outside the USA. We selected a Ontario car insurance company with a policy that was extremely generous and offered a great value.
I have to wonder why we pay so much more for a policy with less coverage here. Its probably because the majority of Canada is very remote countryside. I just love it up in the Mountains and wish we could stay there the most of the year.
