When it comes to plant technology, it’s crazy what lengths that some people will go to. Of course, with hybrid plants, the developer can just choose to keep the particular parent strains a proprietary bit of information. However, even with open pollinated plants, you’d be amazed at some things. For example, there are starting to issue patents to protect a few plants. Even though these strains are stable and can be perpetuated by saving seeds, it is illegal to do so. This just seems insane. Obviously, it’s quite likely that the average Joe doesn’t keep going back to the source if they are all familiar with the process. However, selling those saved seeds would be risking arrest.
