Do You Need To Exercise Everyday To Lose Weight?

I have been looking round trying to find the answer to this question and the information just seems to change all the time. Some people say that you absolutely have to exercise and workout every day but others say that you should have at least 1-2 days rest a week to give the body time to rest. I am thinking that surely you should exercise every single day as that is what athletes do and they don’t have days off to relax. I just want to burn fat and lose some pounds and I didn’t think it would be this confusing!
