The goal in both is not to burn calories or to starve yourself, the goal is to boost your metabolism. The actual amount of calories you burn while working out won’t be much at all, and it isn’t going to help you lose weight. Likewise, starving yourself may help you lose weight, but will drastically slow down your metabolism to the point where as soon as you start eating normally again you’ll expand like a blimp. However, both regular exercise and a healthy diet will boost your metabolism and help you burn calories even when you’re just lying around.
