It sometimes seemed that gout was just part of my family’s life when I was growing up. My grandfather had it, my father got it, and my son began showing symptoms at the age of forty.
However, unlike other generations, my son was determined to overcome the symptoms of gout and did his own research. He found that today, with medication, diet, and exercise, gout can be controlled.
After speaking with his doctor, who chooses to prescribe allopurinol for gout, my son began his new regimen.
I was quite a change, but he has been symptom free since he began and he credits the allopurinol for the biggest change. He’s sticking with his diet, though, because he feels that prevention is always easier than a cure.
