Grandpa’s Pet Shop

For several years in my youth I worked in my grandfather’s pet shop.  Every day I would show up at 6 in the AM in order take out the dogs and cats and to feed the various animals to include fish both salt and freshwater, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, rats, mice, ferrets, and – my personal favorite – the noble turtle.  In fact, pet turtle care has long been a passion of mine and was one of the main reasons I decided I wanted to work in the pet shop business for so long.  I put in six long years at the family shop before advancing to my corporate job.  Each afternoon at work I would stare in wonder at these amazing little critters and, while I’m happy to have moved on to a more professional setting, I do miss the turtles.
