A simple checking to my computer software is one of the best way to know why my computer runs slow.
Desktops weren’t designed for that function. Just shut the monitors off for the night and let the machine run. As far as the booting goes, it sounds like you may have antivirus scanning at boot or some other app running, due to the hard drive activity.
Does it take an hour for a cold boot, or just to bring it out of hibernation? Did you check the task manager Startup tab to see what’s running at startup? I don’t know how the machines are set up. Are they independent or connect through a server. Why doesn’t your IT guy have a clue? These are the reason why my computer runs so slow.
